Chromatography – Equipment and Resources

About the Core Facility

The Chromatography Facility is part of the Faculty of ALES Core Facilities, located in the Agriculture/Forestry building at the University of Alberta. We are a fully equipped analytical laboratory, with GC, HPLC, GC/MS and freeze drying capabilities.

We support both research and teaching, through sample analysis, theory and hands-on demonstrations.

Our analytical services are available to academic, industrial and government researchers. We work with researchers to develop new methods and protocols as their research needs change. Please contact us directly to discuss your project.

Services and Analyses Available

  • GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
    • VFA/SCFA, FAMES, Alcohols, Sterols, Biodiesel, Alkanes, Carbohydrates
  • LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY
    • Amino acids, Sugars, Caffeine, Pyridinoline, Phenolic acids, Flavonoids, Size Exclusion, Furans, Fat Soluble Vitamins and Water Soluble Vitamins
  • FREEZE DRYING
    • Bulk tray dryer
    • Port drying chamber  - Must provide own glassware
  • SAMPLE PREPARATION
We provide information and advice on sample preparation, including extraction, derivatization and hydrolysis.

    • Samples should be prepared before bringing to the lab for analysis, and biohazards must be neutralized
  • METHOD DEVELOPMENT
    • New analysis requests are always welcome, and new methods for analyses not listed here can be developed on GC, GC/MS and HPLC. Please contact us directly with your request.
