Chromatography – Equipment and Resources

About the Core Facility

The AFNS Chromatography Facility is fully equipped with multiple gas chromatographs (GC), liquid chromatographs (LC) and a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS). Both GC and HPLC are used to separate, identify and quantify complex mixtures such as plant or animal extracts. We currently have methods in place for the analysis of compounds such as fatty acid methyl esters (FAMES), volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and carbohydrates by GC as well as amino acids, sugars and vitamins by LC. We are able to work with researchers to develop methods for new analyses as needed. We are knowledgeable in the areas of sample preparation, data analysis, chromatography, mass spectrometry and general chemistry, and are happy to give advice and suggestions if you have questions.
